The stator of the No. 2 generator unit at the Qinshan Phase II Nuclear Power Plant was successfully replaced and positioned using the factory roof opening hoisting method for the first time. This marks the first-ever replacement of a generator stator at a nuclear power plant in China. Zoomlion’s crane, with its industry-leading performance and quality, completed this highly challenging project with utmost precision, laying a solid foundation for enhancing the unit’s power output and making a significant contribution to the safe and stable operation of the nuclear power plant.
As a core component of a nuclear power plant, the generator stator plays a crucial role in converting mechanical energy into electrical energy, providing support, heat dissipation, insulation protection, and magnetic field formation. The dismantling and installation of the stator require extremely high precision, making the hoisting process highly complex. The old stator replaced in this project weighed 347 tons, while the new stator weighed 325 tons.
The hoisting operation required lifting and lowering the new and old stators through the turbine hall maintenance platform via the factory roof opening, passing through critical production areas such as the turbine hall and main transformer. This was a high-risk and highly challenging task. Thanks to its outstanding performance in nuclear power hoisting, Zoomlion’s 2,000-ton crawler crane undertook the dismantling of the old stator and the installation of the new stator, with a maximum operating radius of 58 meters.
During the hoisting process, Zoomlion’s crane overcame multiple complex challenges, including limited space for sling installation, high-altitude operations, the immense weight of the equipment, and stringent technical requirements. With its superior quality and performance, the crane successfully completed key steps such as removing the roof cover plates, hoisting out the old stator, hoisting in the new stator, positioning the new stator, and reinstalling the roof, ensuring precision, safety, and smooth execution.
